Coaching to Support the Conditions for a Well-Rounded Education

The practices and learning conditions that support a well-rounded education for all students are key elements of many state plans under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Creating positive school climates and supporting student social and emotional development, however, can seem like a daunting challenge. Principals and teacher leaders play an important role in building educators’ capacity to provide a well-rounded education to all students. They need actionable tools to guide their initiatives.

During this webinar, staff from AIR introduce two coaching tools to assist districts and schools in their school climate and social and emotional learning (SEL) implementation efforts. First, the panelists introduce the Leadership Competency Self-Reflection Tool to understand what effective leaders can do to drive actions that impact SEL and school climate. Second, they present a coaching toolkit for administrators and instructional coaches to support teacher implementation of SEL practices; this toolkit demonstrates how SEL can be integrated seamlessly with academic instruction.
