Diversifying the Educator Workforce by Eliminating Barriers and Creating Pathways Throughout the Pipeline | Webinar Series: Beyond Selection and Hiring (Part 1)
Many states and districts are focused on building more diverse representation among their teachers and leaders. Although hiring a more diverse educator workforce may seem like a simple, straightforward solution to addressing ethno-racial disparities, this approach is not likely to address systemic problems.
This is the first webinar in a new series sponsored by the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders (GTL Center), Beyond Selection and Hiring.
In Part I of the series, presenters:
- explored the historical context for present day educator workforce diversity deficiencies;
- discussed why employing a diverse, talented teaching workforce is vital to the future of the education profession; and
- shared our approach to thinking systemically about diversifying the educator workforce.
Presenters
- Lisa Lachlan, EdD, American Institutes for Research, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the GTL Center
- Andrea Guiden, PhD, Historical Overview: The Journey Toward a Diverse Educator Workforce
- Constance Lindsay, PhD, Teacher Diversity and Student Success: Why Racial Representation Matters in the Classroom
- Etai Mizrav, The Talent Development Data Tool 2.0: A Brief Introduction
About the Series
Starting in July 2021, the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders' (GTL Center) hosted a three-part Webinar Series, Beyond Selection and Hiring, offering practical solutions for strengthening and diversifying the educator workforce. In this series, discover free, user-friendly tools and GIS mapping to confront systemic inequities across the educator career continuum and change our systems—not just to recruit more teachers of color, but also to dismantle the inequitable and exclusionary practices that push teachers of color out of classrooms in the first place.
