Amy Trauth

Researcher

Amy Trauth is a researcher with expertise in P-16 STEM curriculum and instruction, classroom and large-scale assessment, teacher preparation, and issues related to equity and access in P-16 STEM education. She serves as a science content expert on the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), providing science content reviews and technical support for both assessments.

Dr. Trauth serves as a lead researcher on STEM and teacher education related projects funded by the National Science Foundation, state departments of education, and private foundations. She regularly designs and conducts qualitative and mixed methods studies on issues in teacher education, recruitment, and retention; learners’ experiences in STEM education; and improving workforce diversity in STEM fields.

Prior to working at AIR, she spent time as a teacher educator, facilitating professional learning and classroom coaching for in-service science and engineering teachers, teaching and supervising preservice science teachers across several states. She has served as a consultant to state departments of education on curriculum adoption and implementation and development of statewide assessments aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. Dr. Trauth was a middle and high school science teacher.
