Jason Harlacher

Senior Researcher

Jason Harlacher is a senior researcher at AIR, where he is the director for the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Center, the co-director for the Wyoming MTSS Center, and a technical assistance provider with the National Center on Intensive Intervention. Dr. Harlacher coordinates projects and provides consultation and technical assistance to state departments and school districts on tiered systems. With a background in school psychology, he has provided professional learning and coaching services related to MTSS for more than 18 years. He brings a wealth of hands-on experience in implementation of evidence-based practices, as he has led implementation of tiered supports as a school psychologist, worked as a district-wide consultant, and worked as the state director for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Nevada.

Dr. Harlacher co-led the implementation and scale-up of PBIS in Colorado, where he created the curriculum for all three tiers of PBIS and trained dozens of school and district teams each year. He has extensive experience in classroom management, data-based decision making, intensive intervention, social and emotional learning, and implementation of MTSS.

Dr. Harlacher has authored several books related to MTSS, including Untangling Data-Based Decision Making: A Problem Solving Model to Enhance MTSS, An Educator’s Guide to Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, Designing Effective Classroom Management, and Bolstering Student Resilience.
