AIR Selected by the Washington Post as One of Its Top 200 Businesses

Washington, D.C. – The Washington Post has selected the American Institutes for Research (AIR) as one of its “Post 200” companies, which recognizes the largest and most influential business organizations in the greater Washington, D.C. area. AIR was chosen as one of the Top 10 nonprofit firms.

The Washington Post conducts a survey each year and issues an annual report on the top businesses in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland. It is produced by the Business section of the newspaper. The research firm GuideStar USA provided the newspaper with an analysis of nonprofits.

Other organizations selected in the nonprofit category included AARP, the American National Red Cross, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Legal Services Corporation, the National Geographic Society, and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.

“This is a great honor and recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff to our mission of trying to improve the lives of others, especially the disadvantaged,” said Sol H. Pelavin, AIR’s CEO, and David Myers, the organization’s President. Pelavin retires on December 31, 2010 and will be succeeded by Myers.

Hundreds of private companies, law and lobby firms, banks and credit unions, and nonprofit organizations that are based in or with major operations in the Washington metropolitan area were examined by the newspaper as part of its selection process.

AIR, which is a nonpartisan organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and provides technical assistance for federal, state, and local governments as well as foundations and private entities, has a staff of 1,650 employees – with approximately half of them based in the Washington, D.C. area.
