AIR Special Education Expert Louis Danielson Receives Prestigious J.E. Wallace Wallin Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council for Exceptional Children

Washington, D.C. – Dr. Louis C. Danielson, a managing director and special education expert at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), received the Council for Exceptional Children’s prestigious J.E. Wallace Wallin Lifetime Achievement Award on April 11, 2012 during the organization’s annual convention in Denver, CO.

The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and gifts/talents. The J. E. Wallace Wallin Special Education Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes “an individual who has made continued and sustained contributions to the education of children and youth with exceptionalities.”

Danielson was honored “for his leadership and achievements that have advanced the field of special education” and was recognized “as a visionary whose intellect, expertise, and historical knowledge of research, data, legislation, policy, innovation, and practice have fostered a national agenda that helped transform the field of special education.”

A national leader in the field of special education, Danielson served in several senior leadership positions at the U. S. Department of Education’s Office for Special Education Programs (OSEP), including directing the Research to Practice Division.

At AIR, Dr. Danielson leads the recently initiated National Center on Intensive Interventions, serves as a senior advisor to the National Center on Response to Intervention, and leads an initiative of the National High School Center on tiered interventions.
