AIR a Sponsor of Oregon’s 2012 “Celebrating Student Success” Awards Honoring Schools Using Data to Help Close Achievement Gaps

Washington, D.C. – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is the title sponsor of the 2012 Celebrating Student Success Awards, which honors seven high poverty and/or minority public schools in Oregon where data was used to help students succeed in narrowing the academic achievement gap with their peers in other schools.

Oregon State Superintendent Susan Castillo announced the seven schools, which were named 2012 Celebrating Student Success Champions, during an event on April 10, 2012 in Portland, Ore. The winners represent a wide range of large, small, rural, urban and suburban schools that effectively used data in their decision making to improve student achievement.

Additionally, eight schools – which previously were recognized as Success Champions – received Continuing Success Awards for maintaining high levels of student improvement.

The winners “share a common commitment to using data to drive their decision making, engaging parents and communities as active partners, and providing strong, shared leadership and a focus on high quality instruction,” said Superintendent Castillo in a news release.

Each school was selected by a Blue Ribbon Panel of educators, education stakeholders, and community members. Champion schools receive a $3,000 grant award and each Continuing Success school receives a $1,000 grant award.
