American Institutes for Research Collaborates with Microsoft and AssistX Education to Support Secure K-12 Statewide Testing for Windows 8 Devices

Washington, D.C. – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is teaming up with Microsoft and AssistX Education, LLC to bring students across the United States the most secure online assessment environment for Windows 8 devices.

AIR Secure Browser 7.2, bundled with AssistX’s TestPolicy™ for AIR, creates a standardized testing environment for Windows 8 that provides schools with a simple way to achieve testing compliance in preparation for assessments in Spring of 2015. Schools need only to install the latest release of the AIR secure browser bundle to experience the benefits. No additional deployment or configuration is necessary.

“We are delighted to be working with Microsoft and AssistX to add Windows 8 devices to our list of supported hardware and software platforms for secure online assessment,” said Jon Cohen, Executive Vice President of AIR and President of AIR Assessment.

AIR Secure Browser 7.2 also supports ClassPolicy™, an optional add-on available from AssistX for those who want an enhanced, teacher-led online learning as well as testing experience in a 1-to-1 environment. TestPolicy™ for AIR and ClassPolicy™ are exclusively for Windows.

“AssistX is thrilled to contribute TestPolicy™ for AIR to exceed the compliance regulations and offer secure, simple and streamlined online assessments on Windows,” said Bob Chung, President of AssistX. “What’s even more exciting is how we will collaborate with AIR and Microsoft to continue to simplify technology for educators so we can empower them to improve learning outcomes.”

AIR currently supports secure testing in 13 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortia (SBAC) states, including: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, U.S. Virgin Islands, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia.

AIR, a not-for-profit organization, is one of the nation’s leading providers of academic assessments and provides accessible, standards-based statewide adaptive testing.
