American Institutes for Research Educator Quality Expert to Present at Two Upcoming Conferences

Washington, D.C. – Sabrina Laine, a vice president at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), will discuss issues involving educator quality at the annual meeting of the National Association of State Title I Directors to be held August 4-5, 2011 in Washington, D.C. and the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Legislative Summit on August 8-11, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.

Laine, the director of the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Qualityat AIR, will participate in the “Facilitated Discussion on SIG Strategies – Teacher and Principal Evaluations,” on August 4th during the Title I meeting. The event is hosted by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Student Achievement and School Accountability Programs at the U.S. Department of Education. Laine will join with Carlas McCauley, team lead for School Improvement Grants (SIG) in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Student Achievement and School Accountability Programs.

On August 8, Laine will participate in a panel, “More on Educator Evaluation, Compensation and Tenure Reform: Getting into the Specifics,” at the NCSL Legislative Summit along with Toby King, Colorado Department of Education; Angela Minnici, American Federation of Teachers; and Alice O’Brien, National Education Association. Laine will provide an overview of the issues and discuss state activity, including common approaches to existing reforms for state legislators as they consider current and upcoming education policies. The NCSL Legislative Summit is the largest bipartisan meeting of the year for state legislators and their staff to learn how to improve government.
