American Institutes for Research to Host Annual PIAAC Conference on International Adult Assessment
Washington, D.C. – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) will host the annual conference of the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) Dec. 10–11 at the Key Bridge Marriot Hotel in Arlington, VA.
AIR President and CEO David Myers will deliver introductory remarks for the event, titled “What We Need Skills for: The PIACC Research Conference 2015.” The conference is a chance for attendees to learn about key findings from research papers based on PIAAC, a large-scale assessment conducted under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that compares the basic skills and competencies of adults from around the world. AIR provides technical consultation and management support to PIAAC, which first administered the test in 2011.
Most of the papers to be presented at the event were commissioned by AIR with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics. Senior AIR Researcher Alka Arora and AIR Research Associate Emily Pawlowski will present their paper, Examining Gender Differences in the Mathematical Literacy of 15-Year Olds and the Numeracy Skills of the Age Cohorts as Adults.
