Consumer Information for Formulary Decisions

AIR’s work to increase the transparency of evidence-based information for consumers includes creating plain language materials to explain the evidence-based formulary decision process. AIR’s work for one of the largest health insurance plans involved developing two Web-based products for their members to explain the research process and clinical decisions that determined which medicines were included on their outcomes-based formulary. The two products included a general informational piece describing the formulary decision process and a topic specific piece on proton-pump inhibitors. Consumers tested each product to ensure user understanding and engagement.
