Open Society Foundations’ Getting Ready for School Evaluation

Little girl on a benchThe Open Society Foundations contracted AIR to provide technical support for the evaluation of the pilot Getting Ready for School intervention program in six locations: Armenia, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the United States (North Carolina and NYC). The purpose of the Getting Ready for School intervention is to increase the successful transition of disadvantaged young children into school by imparting school readiness skills provided by their parents in their home.

AIR determined the magnitude of the impacts of this intervention on key stakeholders, including children and parents. AIR is conducting a global evaluation of the program using quasi-experimental design, which employs both quantitative and qualitative data sources. Among the instruments AIR has developed to measure the program are a child assessment, parent interview, and trainer survey. AIR also trained local data collectors and data entry personnel in the field to ensure high data quality.
