Tribal Education Regional Consortium in the Midwest
Tribal educational sovereignty and interests extend beyond reservation borders to include Tribally affiliated youth wherever they attend school. As a result, Tribal, state, and local education agencies need a strong understanding of Tribal consultation and collaboration, Tribal sovereignty and treaty rights, and Indian education programming.
The Midwest Comprehensive Center is partnering with education leaders in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin to foster collaboration across states and scale up professional development to support Tribal education. This work will provide a structure for making connections across states and sharing knowledge, information, and resources.
Midwest CC will support regional collaboration by:
- Developing training materials;
- Collaborating with Tribal and Indian education leaders;
- Creating resources to respond to immediate needs; and
- Synthesizing shared priorities for Tribal education to help guide future work.
This collaboration will create connections between Tribal, state, and local education leaders across Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, promoting a greater understanding of Tribal sovereignty and the ways schools can support their Tribally affiliated students.
