Expanding Math Pathways for Student Success in Massachusetts
Image
Math pathways help students follow high-quality course sequences in math, achieve mathematical proficiency, and prepare for opportunities after high school.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is partnering with the Northeast Comprehensive Center to develop clear, research-based pathways through math courses that districts can adapt as needed for local needs.
The Northeast Comprehensive Center will support DESE by:
- Conducting an inventory of current math pathways across the state;
- Completing a national scan of state math courses and pathways;
- Convening and facilitating local education agency and content expert roundtable discussions; and
- Producing a math pathways guidance manual for local education agencies with recommended pathways.
The guidance manual will help DESE efforts to implement high-quality, evidence-based math pathways, leading to improved student outcomes.
