Emma Cohen

Emma Cohen's work centers on advancing the generation and use of high-quality data and evidence in education research and policy, with a focus on postsecondary education. Dr. Cohen led AIR’s support of the postsecondary longitudinal studies conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), offering expert content and technical guidance on study design, survey development, and data file and documentation quality. She is the lead author of a report describing the postsecondary experiences and outcomes of students who participated in NCES’s High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 and has published book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on both college students’ pathways and public perceptions of postsecondary value.

Additionally, Dr. Cohen uses her quantitative expertise to contribute to and lead projects that synthesize evidence related to educational interventions, work-based learning, and postsecondary and workforce STEM outcomes. Her roles have included deputy task lead for study reviews for a What Works Clearinghouse Practice Guide and project director for a large-scale meta-analysis of barriers along STEM education and career pathways and interventions to address them. Dr. Cohen is currently the project director for the ECR Hub, a National Science Foundation (NSF) resource center that supports current and prospective NSF grantees engaged in fundamental STEM education research.
