Zeyu Xu

Zeyu Xu is a managing economist at AIR and an affiliated researcher of CALDER. He is an expert on using large-scale longitudinal data to study high school-to-college transition policies and in teacher labor market research issues. Recent work also includes research on career pathways for disadvantaged youth and on the design of clustered randomized trials.

Dr. Xu's research on teacher effectiveness distribution, teacher performance growth, alternative routes to teaching, and the selection and development of teachers for high-need schools has been published as book chapters and in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Education Economics, and Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. Some of Dr. Xu’s recent work includes, The Impact of a $10,000 Bonus on Special Education Teacher Shortages in Hawai‘i, Effects of Large-Scale Early Math Interventions on Student Outcomes: Evidence From Kentucky’s Math Achievement, and Descriptive Evidence on the Relationship Between School Board Training and Financial Deliberations.

Dr. Xu was invited to address state legislators at the National Conference of State Legislatures, and his work has been covered by the Brookings Institution, the Education Gadfly Show, the Fordham Institute, and FutureEd. He has been PI/co-PI on research projects funded by organizations such as the Institute for Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, the Gates Foundation, J.P. Morgan Chase, the Institute for Citizens and Scholars (formerly known as the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation), and the W. T. Grant Foundation.
