Improving Standard Immunization Practices Among Pharmacists and Other Healthcare Providers

In the United States, vaccine-preventable diseases contribute to high costs and health complications, especially among older adults. People over the age of 65 face a higher risk of worse outcomes from preventable diseases.

Pharmacist-led immunizations have led to increased immunization rates, by administering vaccines directly and by answering questions and explaining the vaccines. However, older adults, especially those in long-term care, may have difficulty accessing community pharmacies.

To help advance pharmacist-led immunization among older adults and address vaccine confidence, AIR has partnered with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists to educate pharmacists, collaborate with partners on vaccine-related pandemic planning, and facilitate community outreach. The project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
