Nevada Educator Surveys

Teacher turnover, largely due to teachers leaving their schools and the profession, has plagued states and districts throughout the country. The cost of teacher turnover is high and goes beyond the financial burden of filling vacancies; it is negatively influencing school communities, administrators, teachers, and students.

To address this problem, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) is gathering uniform statewide information on teacher turnover and staff working conditions that can be used to improve the recruitment and retention of world-class employees. NDE will use data collected from these surveys and interviews to influence policy and funding to support districts/charters and their educators.

AIR Support for the Nevada School Climate Survey Efforts

AIR supports NDE in strengthening their human capital pipeline by understanding why teachers are leaving their schools, district, the state of Nevada, and/or the teaching profession; and identifying the working conditions that can support PK-12+ school staff retention.

AIR works collaboratively with NDE to:

  • Develop and administer a statewide teacher exit/transfer survey and a school staff working conditions survey;
  • Conduct in-depth interviews and focus groups with educators across the state;
  • Analyze the survey and interview data; and
  • Present key findings that support policy and practice changes at a state and district level.

To accomplish these tasks, AIR:

  • Facilitates discussions with statewide stakeholders including educators, district leadership, and HR professionals;
  • Uses appropriate technological solutions to efficiently work with schools and districts;
  • Rigorously tests the survey instruments and analyzes the results; and
  • Creates online dashboards to facilitate accessible and useful findings from the survey results.
