From 2021-2013, AIR supported the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODE) with the revision of their Equitable Access Analysis Tool. The tool contains data that districts and schools use in their local planning to ensure equitable access for students to excellent educators and other educational opportunities.

AIR's Approach

Building on AIR’s evaluation of the previous Equitable Access Analysis Tool, AIR advised ODE on ways to update their tool to improve functionality and increase the usability so that districts and schools can more readily identify their gaps in access for specific student groups based on race/ethnicity and socio-economic groups.

AIR facilitated a decision-making process with ODE and a stakeholder group to determine the measures, measurement models and user-interface of the revised tool. A group of districts piloted the tool with their own data in spring of 2023, providing feedback on the usability and content of the tool.

Project Outcomes

In preparation for finalization of the tool, the AIR team created guidance documents and supported ODE in thinking about a communication plan for the tool roll-out. AIR provided ODE with design specifications for the revised tool that ODE programmed and implemented. ODE introduced the revised tool statewide in February 2024.
