Pre-employment Selection of Air Traffic Controllers (FAA)

Effective air traffic controller selection is critical to aviation safety, ensuring collisions are avoided, traffic flows smoothly, and pilots receive timely, accurate information. AIR conducted studies to assist the FAA in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the controller selection process. For example, AIR conducted a concurrent criterion-related validation study of the AT-SAT test battery for selecting controllers to work in the tower cab.

A secondary objective of this validation study was to examine the extent to which the AT-SAT could be leveraged to make decisions about controller placements into different facility levels. This project provided valuable insight into ways in which FAA’s existing AT-SAT battery can be used to make both selection and job placement decisions.
