SPARX Knowledge OnDemand Training

In 2019, the Department of Defense adopted a public health approach to violence prevention. AIR has worked closely with the DoD to pilot, revise, and deliver the DOD SPARX Knowledge (SPARX) training, the first comprehensive training on integrated primary prevention for the military’s prevention workforce.

The training provides the groundwork to implement the prevention processes within a supportive prevention system to stop harmful behaviors—sexual assault, harassment, domestic abuse, child abuse and neglect, and suicide—before they start.

Given the growing demand for SPARX Knowledge training, DoD sought alternatives to the 60-hour virtual course. To support DoD in this effort, AIR provided expert consultation to revise SPARX Knowledge into a self-paced online training. The training helps the prevention workforce to:

  • Identify shared risk and protective factors across all levels of the social ecological model;
  • Adopt data-driven approaches to developing prevention plans;
  • Understand elements of quality implementation; and
  • Recognize best practices in process and outcome evaluations.
