Over 52% of New York City families with children under the age of four cannot afford child care. Robin Hood, one of the largest organizations in New York City dedicated to fighting poverty, wanted to address this challenge. They launched the Child Care Quality and Innovation Initiative (CCQII) in 2022. CCQII is a $100M investment with $50M from Robin Hood and a matching investment from the city of New York. It aims to improve New York City’s child care ecosystem while promoting quality, accessibility, and innovation.

AIR is providing technical assistance (TA) to the five grantee organizations funded by this initiative. We will offer evaluation-focused TA to each CCQII grantee to support them in developing and implementing evaluations of their work. This support will include interactive webinars for all CCQII grantees, individualized assistance for each grantee, and an in-person convening of grantees in the fall of 2024.

Grantees are organizations in New York City that support and provide resources to family child care and group family child care centers. Family child care and group family child care centers are important pillars of the child care landscape. CCQII grantees are implementing various interventions to support these centers. This includes interventions like coaching, support for assistant teachers, and mental health resources. Grantee organizations serve providers across New York City, including communities in Far Rockaway, Queens, the Bronx, and Washington Heights.
